rimaldonado@chla.usc.edu
Rita Maldonado is currently completing her MPH at the UCLA School of
Public Health in the Department of Community Health Sciences. She also
has a BA in Anthropology from UCLA. Throughout her studies Rita has
applied the concepts of nearly every class to this population. For
instance, as an undergraduate she completed an honors thesis creating
an ethnography of a school and church for the Deaf in Lima, Peru, which
involved three months of living at the school.
Rita’s work experience is
varied. She spent the last two years working as a Research Assistant in
the UCLA/Rand Center for Adolescent Health Promotion. Her work there
included formative research, program implementation, and data analysis.
Prior to that position she worked with Dr. Jayne Spencer on an
initiative to create a Disability Studies minor at UCLA, an effort Rita
continues to support. Recently, she also interned at Lanterman Regional
Center where she conducted health education in sexual and reproductive
health for women with developmental disabilities as well as parents of
the children and adults with developmental disabilities in English and
Spanish.
